A corpulent helping of red wine makes a splash on this custom winery sign. That splash is enough to tickle your funny bone, and theres nothing like humor on a prominent sign to put potential clients in a positive state of mind about your business. The cheerful-looking wine spill, which is the logo of the Stoutridge Vineyard Company, turned out to be well placed. The splash is great as a logo, but blowing it up larger than life, sculpting, painting, and glossing it takes it to a whole new level. Its a memorable image that will hold its own for decades. Picking a vibrant green for the sign face causes the blob to appear to be splashing off the face of the sign. Since the bright red and green are color complements, their juxtaposition results in the optical illusion of a vibrating motion, so the eye experiences a sensation similar to that of watching an actual stream of wine splashing into a glass. While were on the subject of color complements, heres a little tidbit for the history buffs: The combination of red and green was Vincent Van Goghs favorite color opposition. The text, which is incise carved into the sign face, leaves enough space around the splash to allow for the illusory motion effect. The gilded groove around the perimeter of the sign is also hand carved and is discreet enough to add class without distracting from the focal point.
