Custom Sign Design
Creating your Personalized Sign
After you contact Spring Valley Signs we will ask you to fill in a custom sign design form. This basic questionnaire supplies our custom sign designers with all the information they need about your personal tastes, your marketing needs, and your sign installation site. Please take time to think through your sign project as you fill out the custom sign design interview. The more complete the interview, the faster you will have a custom sign design.
Once you have submitted your completed questionnaire with a down payment, our graphic designers begin work on your custom sign design. Typically, you will receive your first sketch by email within a couple of days. You will have the opportunity to comment on the sketch and our designers will revise the sketch. We will work back and forth with you until you approve your custom sign design.
As soon as you approved the sign design it will be released to our production team so they can begin to paint and carve your actual sign. Your finished custom sign will be ready to ship in approximately six weeks. Please be sure to tell us if you have a specific deadline. We will not cut corners to guarantee rush orders but we’ll do our best to fit it into our production schedule and get it to you on time.
GRAPHICS …a picture is worth a thousand words
Let’s say you want a painting of a boat on a lake. We can waste a lot of time talking about the kind of boat, the mood of the sky, the trees on the shoreline etc. If you can just email us something you like, we can work with that image or find something similar but more artistic.
It saves a lot of time if you send us an image close to what you have in mind. Perhaps you have found a sign that you like by browsing this web site. Letting us know which one(s) you like will help our designers understand what you want.
You can search for images on Google image search, or any other Internet image library. Otherwise, take some digital pictures of your own landscape or pets, or whatever the subject of the artwork is.
Please submit your logo or other picture in vector format (.ai or .eps). If you do not have a vector file then a hi-resolution bitmap will do (TIFF .jpg or .pdf) Format for IBM.
COLORS
The paints we use on our custom signs are standard Sherwin Williams colors. Over time, our graphic designers have observed that carved and gilded letters show up best on certain colors (usually darker than you would think). We have come up with our own palette of standard colors, which we highly recommend. Since the color you may see on your computer depends on how your monitor is adjusted, the best way to check the actual color is to go to any Sherwin Williams store and look at their color fan-deck.
If you require a color for your custom sign that is not in our palette we can order in that color for a small fee. Please tell us the name of the color in Sherwin Williams, or Pantone.
To match a Pantone color graphic designers will choose the closest possible match between your specified Pantone color and Sherwin Williams standard latex paint colors. Please keep in mind that Pantone color matching is used to match colors of ink, which are somewhat transparent. Some of the brightness of Pantone colors is impossible to achieve in latex paint, as it is not as transparent as ink.
FONTS
If you would like a specific font on your custom sign, chances are we have it. If your font is not in our extensive font library and you cannot supply it, we can purchase it online and bill you later. Please note that not every font is good for carving and readability. Our designers can advise you and recommend a font that will work the best for your custom sign design.
As you can see, we work with you, sending sketches until you are satisfied with your custom sign design. Start the process by contacting us for a free consultation.

Our Design Interview will help you communicate to our designers just what you want on your sign.

Our skilled artists can duplicate your original.
We offer standard colors but can match other colors too for an extra fee.
